Where to Stay in Inhambane

Pensão Machibombo (Pensão Pachica)

There used to be a great little guesthouse facing the bay at the end the peninsula off of Av. 3 de Fevereiro (View Map). It was there for many years under a couple of different names (Pensão Machibombo and Pensão Pachica). I stayed there frequently in 2004-06, and we stayed there as recently as October 2014.

As of June 2017, there are indications it has since closed, which is a shame, as that significantly limits good budget options in the old city center. Just down the road is the swanky, new Hotel Casa do Capitão. Inhambane City is well worth exploring, but for US$180/night, I’d skip staying the night at Capitão and head on to Tofo where lovely and affordable seaside accommodation awaits.
